Description of Services

Typical 1st Visit

When a new practice member enters The Center For Wellness & Rehabilitation our staff professionally guides them through the intake process quickly and efficiently. Intake forms are filled out, insurance cards (if applicable) are copied, and any initial questions are answered. The patient is then escorted into the exam room where Dr. Stewart performs a thorough consultation and examination using both traditional and cutting edge technology. Prior to treatment, a preliminary explanation of the patient’s condition is given, and the appropriate forms of treatment are chosen for the patient’s individual needs. Before each treatment is applied Dr. Stewart explains what the patient will experience during the treatment.

At the end of the first visit home care instructions are given. A description of how the new practice member should feel after the first treatment is explained. On the second visit a more thorough report of the patient’s test results is given, and a more elaborate description of the patient’s condition is provided. Any questions that may arise are answered at this time. Finally, a schedule of visits to rehabilitate the patient is set up for the weeks to come, and a re-exam later in the treatment program will help to determine the response to the chiropractic care that Dr. Stewart provided.

Chiropractic

Michael C. Stewart, DC, CCSP has been practicing chiropractic for 13 years. Chiropractic methods used at the CFWR are both traditional and modern. Adjusting techniques used by Dr. Stewart have been used for over a century. However, technology also plays a significant role in diagnosing and treating practice members’ health problems. X-rays, computerized testing, and traditional orthopedic and chiropractic procedures are used to pinpoint neuromusculoskeletal ailments. Treatments for Dr. Stewart’s patients consist of various spinal and extremity adjusting techniques supported by therapies such as massage, stretching, electric muscle stimulation, ultrasound, laser light, temperature therapy, and joint taping.

For over a century chiropractors have been helping people in the community restore their health through the chiropractic spinal adjustment. The natural approach to health is rewarding because the true effects of the treatment occur deep within the body allowing the true manifestation of health to permanently surface. , The change in spinal alignment when a spinal adjustment is performed allows the nerves that reach out from the spinal cord and brain to communicate with the rest of the body without interference or stress. As a result, the body can express its full potential and resist disease. This approach to health appreciates all the functions of the body working as one unit, as opposed to the medical model which looks at each organ individually. Chiropractic is remarkably safe and should be used by everyone to restore and maintain general health and neuromuscular function.

Physical Therapy

Paul Artale, PT. OCS, CSCS, provides quality, effective physical therapy with a one-on-one personal touch. Physical therapy utilizes individualized rehabilitative programs. Treatments include various manual techniques and therapeutic exercises to improve joint function and strength. Conditions that are commonly treated with physical therapy include acute joint injuries, arthritis, chronic joint and muscle pain, post surgical recuperation, muscle strength imbalance, and joint instability.

Massage

The Center For Wellness & Rehabilitation is proud to have three massage therapists available for our practice and community members. They are each unique in their talents and offer all forms of massage therapy. Ramon Jacinto, CMT is a master at deep tissue massage and is skilled in the Thai Massage Technique. Katarina Blum, CMT has a year of private practice under her belt and is accomplished in Swedish Massage. Swedish Massage is excellent for anyone trying to escape from a stressful lifestyle. Erica Mueller-Panek, NCBMT is a nationally certified massage therapist who performs many forms of massage including prenatal massage, hot stone massage, and reflexology. Erica also offers many spa treatments including organic facials, back facials, clay and mud wraps, exfoliations, and body scrubs.

Massage is a manual form of care that relaxes muscles and joints, and is a true mind-body experience. It also helps to detoxify the body through the lymphatic system. Depending on what you are attempting to accomplish with the massage will determine what technique you should experience. If you are looking to de-stress your mind Swedish Massage is perfect. When intense muscle tension is present deep pressure techniques are called for. When your muscles are too sensitive and you suffer from inflexibility Thai Massage is the technique for you. If you are not the “touchy-feely” type, but like the feeling of heat and light pressure a Hot Stone Massage will satisfy your needs. If you haven’t had a massage before we can place you with the massage therapist that best fits your personality and needs.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an Asian form of health care that uses very thin needles to stimulate the body’s healing mechanisms. According to Chinese philosophy there are lines of energy through the body called meridians. Meridians are super highways through the body that allow the forces of life (Chi) to reach the farthest points of the body. When these meridians get clogged or blocked it manifests as disease. Acupuncture needles stimulate the meridians to allow the life force to regain full strength which allows the body to be more balanced and properly regulated.

Sandy Richard, LAC has been with The Center since its inception. She has been a licensed acupuncturist for many years and has experience treating a variety of conditions including infertility, digestive problems, headaches, muscle pain, menstrual irregularities, allergies, and smokers.

Holistic Health Counseling (Nutritional Counseling)

Holistic Health Counseling is a comprehensive lifestyle approach to nutrition. It takes nutritional counseling to a more comprehensive level where your HHC helps you understand why you eat the way you do, how to slowly change your lifestyle habits, yet still be able to indulge. Most programs are six months long but can be tailored to your needs. Each one-on-one session with your HHC lasts one hour. Topics that are discussed range from food selection and exercise to emotional eating and weight loss. Your first sit-down with our holistic health counselors is complimentary to see if they are a good fit for you. The Center For Wellness & Rehabilitation holds group programs that are educational about specific topics in nutrition, and last three to six weeks in length. Maureen Huntley-Sheahan, CHHC and Sharon Torrens, CHHC are both educated by the Institute of Integrated Nutrition and hold various other degrees in the nutrition field.
